Chael Sonnen, an American mixed martial artist is allowed to use anabolic steroids. The physician Timothy Trainor noticed that this mixed martial artist really had hypogonadism.
What does this condition represent? Hypogonadism is connected with insufficient secretion of testosterone. Physicians ordinarily indicate testosterone replacement therapy in order to treat this condition.
Chael Sonnen has received a therapeutic use exemption (TUE). Thus, this athlete is allowed to apply steroids for clinical needs and fight against Anderson Silva at UFC 148 in July 2012.
According to recommendations of Chael Sonnen’s health care provider, he should introduce injections of Testosterone Enanthate and Testosterone Cypionate twice per week. The doses which are prescribed have not been revealed. But under rules of the Nevada Athletic Commission, blood serum levels of testosterone in Chael Sonnen should be within normal range on the morning after the match with Silva.
The physician Trainor claims that those who compete with TUE should be tested on the morning after the match to find out whether they have administered something right before the match.
The doctor Trainor suggests that testosterone can cause performance-enhancing effects, if it is utilized right before the fight. He confirms that injections must not be introduced in the days before a match to prevent enhanced levels of testosterone.
But it seems that the NAC is not aware that steroids produce effects connected with enhancement of performance, not only if they are used right before competitions. Intake of steroids influences significantly on performance during workouts before competitions. And the effects remain even after sportspeople discontinue applying them.
Sonnen had increased testosterone levels at UFC 117. He noted that he had tested positive because he had been on TRT. He appealed his suspension and it was reduced to 6 months from one year. But Chael Sonnen didn’t have any TUE that time.
