It is important to have a universal policy, when it comes to sentencing of athletes that are caught using steroids

Officials of the British government will be not capable to stop sportspeople importing steroids to the UK, when they come to participate in the 2012 Olympic Games. Although application of steroids is banned in sports, personal administration of these medicines is not illegal in the UK. Just sale of steroids is claimed to be illicit in this country. So, if anyone wants to import amount of anabolic steroids that is significantly large, he/she will not be allowed to do it.
Before Olympic Games took place in Australia, Canada and China, governments of these countries modified legislation related to import and administration of steroids at least temporally. But the British government refuses to change steroid legislation for the 2012 Olympics.
Ironically, while the government of the UK refuses to make personal administration of steroids illicit, Britain sportspeople are banned for lifetime, if they administer anabolic steroids. When it comes to the WADA Code, athletes that use prohibited preparations are banned for 2 years.
The Olympic minister Hugh Robertson claims that it is needed to have a universal law related to sentencing. This minister insists on at least four years or even longer.  However this minister is supported by the British Olympic Association, the UK Anti-Doping Agency doesn’t agree with such harsh punishment. Andy Parkinson, the CEO of the UK Anti-Doping Agency, claims that some sanctions must be softened.
The Olympic minister admits that there are different opinions in sports and it’s not well but he doesn’t ask the CEO of the UKAD to resign.
The spokesman for the minister has announced that any sportsperson can have steroids in his/her luggage, when he/she arrives to London. But the amount of steroids should display that he/she possesses them just for personal intake. The spokesman has noted that it is not criminal for an athlete to use steroids under laws of the UK but if any athlete is caught administering forbidden medicines, he/she will be punished under anti-doping laws.
The UKAD confirmed that they would cooperate with border control officials. Information about athletes will be utilized by anti-doping agencies.
5, 000 drug test, including 1, 000 blood tests will be conducted by the International Olympic Committee.
