Carl Fletcher, a shot-putter from Britain, can’t participate in competitions four years. The suspension was established by the United Kingdom Anti-Doping Agency (UKAD) because he was charged with trafficking anabolic steroids. Carl Fletcher distributed more than 15 types of steroids. It was determined that HGH, testosterone and Trenbolone belonged to the preparations which had been supplied by this sportsperson. The Liverpool Crown Court sentenced this sportsperson to 9 months in jail.
It is interesting to mention that Carl Fletcher never tested positive for any steroids or other performance-enhancing drugs by the WADA. Don’t you find this fact strange? What could it mean? It is possible to suppose that methods applied by anti-doping agencies are not good enough to catch steroid users that participate in international sport competitions.
The WADA and the UKAD put significant efforts to release sports from cheating and intake of steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs. These agencies also work together with law enforcement organizations in order to achieve the needed results.
The UKAD pointed out that anti-doping officials would be allowed to share information about names of sportsmen who applied anabolic steroids.
This case displayed that the collaboration between the UKAD and law enforcement benefits a lot. It proved that law enforcement agencies may help greatly to detect the athletes that apply anabolic steroids or other performance-enhancing drugs. It is not possible to overvalue the role of these organizations in detection of steroid users in sports. Andy Parkinson, the manager of the UKAD, claims that if law enforcement organizations work together with the UKAD, they will have success.
The Merseyside Police and the Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA) investigated a certain situation connected with administration of steroids by officers at the St. Helens Basic Command Unit. It was found out that Fletcher had participated in the illegal business conducted by his uncle and cousin. That’ why Fletcher was suspended from competitions till November 8, 2015.
